Haste Makes Waste

Joshua 9:14 And the men... asked not counsel at the mouth of the Lord.

Read Joshua 9:1-27.

Did you ever make a big mistake because you didn’t seek the mind of the Lord? That’s what happened to Joshua and the Israelites in today’s text. So spiritually elated were they after the victory at Ai and the building of the altar at mount Ebal, that they failed to ask God’s counsel and temporarily made a peace treaty with the deceptive Gibeonites. Fortunately, the blunder did not prove fatal.

Pray your way through the day. Pray when you wake up so you won’t greet the family with a snarl. Pray on your way to school or to work. Pray before you tackle the first job of the day, whatever it may be. Pray before you answer the phone. You don’t know who’s on the other end of the wire. Why not be poised and ready when you say hello? Pray before you open a letter. You don’t know if it’s a check or a bill. There is a difference! Pray before you make a decision. Pray before you hire a person and before you fire one, if you have to. Pray before you enter into a business deal. God knows whether or not the other person has good credit or whether he’s going to cheat you out of thousands of dollars. Pray your way through the day.

Small thought here. My mistakes have always been made in a hurry without the benefit of prayer. I can’t remember anything about which I really prayed where I was misled or made a blunder. Can you? Trust God’s judgment in every life decision, in every situation. Pray!
